I have what is an increasingly rare background in the media having worked in traditional print – both tabloid and broadsheet – I was then a BBC news producer – set up a TV channel – and have worked in digital since the dawn of online video and social media.
I’ve seen hope and optimism replaced by fear and apprehension as the downsides of the technology have emerged.
We need to teach users and viewers how to consume media and filter truth from falsehood.
